The Rise of Short-Form Sports Videos

via nhl.com

Even the most hardcore sports fan doesn’t have time to watch it all. With the level of saturation that televised events now bring, you gotta find ways to cut corners.

That’s probably one reason that short-form videos are becoming an ever-more important aspect of sports-related content — both to catch up with last night’s games and as a marketing tool.

As a blog at SportTechie puts it: “For millions of sports fans around the world viewing, posting and sharing short form video content is now central to the way they want to consume and interact with the sports they love.”

This is probably why there’s such a free-for-all ongoing to produce and ensure platforms for sports videos. YouTube Shorts was rolled out last year to ensure TikTok didn’t steal all the thunder.

As YouTube’s lead on the project, Todd Sherman, put it to The Verge: “… the company views Shorts as a new avenue for the next generation of content creators to emerge. YouTube itself is filled with a hyper-competitive landscape of established creators who specialize in making videos that typically run 10 minutes or longer. Shorts offers creators a chance to break that mold, much like what YouTube originally offered to internet creators when it first launched in 2005.”

What this makes clear is that anyone marketing in the sports sector needs to have a handle on how to quickly produce good-looking videos that are timely, concise, and on message.

It’s a good thing some of us have been on this beat for a while. N1D Sports has been producing content for our sports clients for awhile and our video editor services are already well-established.

For example, our work with American Fitness, along with branding and video production for Rubric[K] shows that we’re already on board the short-form sports videos train.
